01
Volume creates hidden cognitive work
Every listing requires interpretation: Is this credible? Am I qualified? Does the compensation work? Is the title misleading? Should I tailor? When the process offers no consistent decision framework, the same questions are solved again and again.
02
Use explicit application rules
Define the minimum evidence required before an opportunity receives time.
- The central work is genuinely interesting
- At least two strong reasons for fit are visible
- No known dealbreaker is present
- The compensation and work model are viable or explicitly unknown
- There is enough evidence to write a credible application
03
Separate outcomes from learning
An application can fail to produce an interview and still improve the system if it clarifies a title family, evidence gap, compensation boundary, or market signal. Record the reason for pursuing and the response, then adjust only when a pattern appears.
04
Create a sustainable operating rhythm
Use focused review windows, a limited active pipeline, and defined recovery time. If distress is persistent or affects daily functioning, a career tool is not a substitute for qualified mental-health support.
